About

About Us

We exist solely to represent, advise and support GPs and their practices ensuring that they are properly valued and their skills properly utilised in serving the public.

LMCs (local medical committees) are the bodies that represent the interests of all GPs at a local level, and as membership organisations their strength lies in their ability to represent the entirety of the profession. Given that there have now been several major reorganisations within the NHS over recent years, LMCs are now the only locality-based organisation that maintains a corporate memory within general practice.

Morgannwg LMC is the only statutory representative body for GPs  in Swansea, Neath and Port Talbot.

We exist solely to represent, advise and support GPs and their Practices ensuring that they are properly valued and their skills properly utilized in serving the public.

Morgannwg LMC is:

Independent

We are funded by GPs to support GPs and practices.

Representative

We are 30 elected GPs from the local population who represent our constituents. The local Health Board (Swansea Bay University Health Board) is required to consult with us on matters relating to General Medical Services and the GMS contract. We are also proactive in representing the interests of GPs in discussions with other groups/professional bodies and provide representation for our local GPs at GPC Wales.

Supportive

We provide advice to practices on any aspect of GP professional life, including contractual issues and pastoral support to colleagues in difficulty.

Professional

We act to uphold professional standards and quality of patient care in General Practice. This includes being involved in Performance & Disciplinary procedures to ensure colleagues are supported and treated fairly.

The non-statutory functions of the LMC are managed by Morgannwg LMC Ltd.
